Green process intensification using microreactor technology for the synthesis of biobased chemicals and fuels

Microreactor technology as an important means of process intensification has opened vast opportunities for green and sustainable chemical synthesis. Over the past decade, a promising research direction been seen in utilization microreactors intensifying catalytic biomass conversion. This Perspective provides concise overview on synthesis value-added chemicals fuels from biomass. The focus is laid merits microreactor technology, its alignment with chemistry engineering principles, typical application examples manufacturing biobased including furanic platform their derivatives mono- disaccharides, liquid-phase oxidation hydrogenation lignocellulosic derivatives, biodiesel Finally, outlook provided future directions, among others solid (catalyst, feed product) handling strategies, integration cascades or one microreactor, expanding transformation database, photocatalysis use novel solvents microflow.
